Trip to Hamburg - Episode 2

Fishmarkt Hamburg-Very fames: They have a weekly markt every friday selling fresh fish straight from the sea as well as many other groceries-very cheap. Too bad we're a day early: no crowd to be seen except the building

HamburgHauptbanhof-CentralRailwayStation

ElbTunnel- built 1911 to connect the mainland to the other side of the river Elbe. There's a lift to bring us 24 meters down into the tunnel. It has two 427 meter long pipes having 12 meters of water over our head. Pretty scary,ha! The tunnel is decorated with ceramic arts of maritime motives way back to that time. It is by the way 400 meters long, so it is quite a walk down there.

ChileHaus by Fritz Höger was built from 1922-1924 and is a wonderful example of the expressionist architecture of the time. The owner had made a fortune with saltpeter from Chile, thus the name "Chilehaus". The arching side of the building and the overhanging front part symbolize a ship, presumably one that brought the raw materials from Chile.
